The city of Kumanovo (native: Куманово)
is situated in the northeast of the Republic of Macedonia, 340
m. above sea level. Kumanovo is an important economic, trading
and cultural center. The town's prosperity rests upon the metal-processing,
tobacco, footwear and textile industries, as well as agriculture.
135,529 people live in Kumanovo (1991), which covers 1,212 sq.
km.
The structure of the population in the Municipality of Kumanovo
is quite heterogeneous, in the city as well as in the subburbian
parts and villages where lives a population from different nationalities,
ethnics groups, various educational structure, having different
religion and habits, different professions and other characteristics.
Considering the register from the year 1994 in the Municipality
of Kumanovo lived 135,482 citizens. |
